GOP Latina House Candidate Rips First Lady’s Tacos Remark

New Mexico congressional candidate Alexis Martinez Johnson blasted First Lady Jill Biden after she likened the minority group to “breakfast tacos” in her speech.

Speaking at the annual UnidosUS conference in San Antonio, Texas, Biden made some insulting comparisons to the organization’s founder, Raul Yzaguirre.

“Raul helped build this organization with the understanding that the diversity of this community, as distinct as the bodegas of the Bronx, as beautiful as the blossoms of Miami, and as unique as the breakfast tacos here in San Antonio, is your strength,” she said.

Her remarks sparked criticism among members of the Latino community, including Johnson, who condemned the First Lady while appearing on “Fox & Friends” on Wednesday.

“Today, my children have less opportunity than when I was a baby with this skyrocketing inflation,” Johnson told host Ainsley Earhardt. “We can’t buy gas to go from one side of the city to the other and groceries are just out of hand. These are the reasons why I’m running. I want to have opportunities for my children. That’s what we’re looking for here in New Mexico’s third district, and I find it a travesty that we’ve been referred to in derogatory terms by First Lady Jill Biden.”

This comes as President Joe Biden’s popularity continues to decline, especially in the Hispanic community.

A survey released by NBC News recently revealed that Hispanic voters in support of the president dropped from 48 percent to 39 percent, while women voters declined from 51 percent to 44 percent — which shows an alarming precedent for the Democratic party, as these demographic groups are key for them.

Infighting within the Democratic Party is also worsening with New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez throwing a fit over fellow party members using the term “Latinx.”

“I also have a mini-rant about this because there are some politicians, including Democratic politicians, that rail against the term ‘Latinx.’ And they’re like, ‘This is so bad, this is so bad for the party,’ like blah, blah, blah,” she said during an Instagram Live session. “And it’s almost like it hasn’t struck some of these folks that another person’s identity is not about your reelection prospects.”

Democrats fear that the squabble within the party, along with the overall dissatisfaction with the Biden administration, could cost them their majority in Congress during the November 8 midterm elections.
