First Son Hunter Biden joined his father on a family vacation on Kiawah Island, South Carolina as Republicans slam the FBI for “double standard” following the raid of former President Donald Trump’s private home in Mar-a-Lago.
Hunter is often involved in shady business dealings and is already under federal criminal investigation after banks flagged four of his transactions as “potential criminal activity,” including a suspicious deposit of $100,000 that came from China.
On Wednesday, he and his wife Melissa Cohen met the president at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland for the flight just two days after the FBI searched Trump’s Florida estate.
The Justice Department declined to comment on the raid, but Trump warned that officials that searched his Florida estate “strongly” insisted on doing so without “any witnesses to see what they were doing.”
“The FBI and others from the federal government would not let anyone, including my lawyers, be anywhere near the areas that were rummaged and otherwise looked at during the raid on Mar-a-Lago,” he wrote in a statement on Truth Social.
Trump is the only former president to be raided by the FBI, including President Barack Obama, who Trump has alleged was a part of spying on his 2016 presidential campaign against Hillary Clinton.
Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis said that the law enforcement agency’s treatment of Trump, as opposed to the Bidens, showed a “Banana Republic”-style legal system.
“The raid of [Mar-a-Lago] is another escalation in the weaponization of federal agencies against the Regime’s political opponents, while people like Hunter Biden get treated with kid gloves,” DeSantis tweeted.
Michigan Rep. Tim Walberg also tweeted, “The raid on President Trump’s home sets a dangerous precedent and takes the targeting of political opponents to an alarming new level. It also underscores a blatant double standard with the free pass given to Hunter Biden.”
Meanwhile, former NYPD Commissioner and Trump supporter Bernie Kerik has issued a warning that the FBI should’ve had body cameras and issued a call for the House Judiciary Committee and Ranking Member Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan to subpoena those involved in the search.
“@Jim_Jordan … The FBI and USAG guidelines [require] all raids to be captured on body cams! @JudiciaryGOP needs to secure those ASAP!” Kerik wrote on Twitter.
