In a recent statement, Mayor Brandon Johnson of Chicago said that Governor Greg Abbott has been “attacking” towns that are run by black people. He says that sending migrants to these towns with black leaders is an attack on them and doesn’t give them any tools to help them handle the extra people.
They have been moved from place to place along the U.S. border and into towns like New York City and Chicago.
Many too many migrants have been brought into these towns by governors like Abbott who have not helped the authorities in any way. Republicans say this is necessary to help cities understand how bad the migrant situation is and what border states are going through.
But this isn’t the first time the mayor has talked about the migrant problem. Mayor Eric Adams of New York City sued 17 different charter bus companies for $700 million because they brought people from Texas to New York City.
He’s going after democratically run towns, especially ones with Black or other people of color in charge, Mayor Johnson said. This is totally wrong. I mean, it’s a very rough way of doing things. And to be honest, it’s not only careless and shabby, it’s also bad.”
It was disputed by other officials, who said that this was not true and that states like this always want to be open states until they start letting people in.
On X, CJ Pearson spoke out and wrote, “Every city wants to be a’sanctuary city’ until it’s time to provide sanctuary.”
President of the Crime Prevention Research Center John R. Lott said, “If Abbott is busing some illegal aliens to Chicago and New York City. If Biden is letting a lot of illegals into Texas, what do you call the “attacking” of those cities?”
There are different opinions in the room about what these buses of migrants coming into cities are really trying to do. However, things may not change any time soon, even though many officials have asked Biden and the government to help with this surge of migrants.
