“President Biden’s attorney stated that the discovery of classified documents at Penn Biden Center occurred on November 2, 2022,” the committee wrote on the social media platform X. “Our Committee has developed evidence showing the timeline of relevant events began in 2021 and involved at least five White House employees.”
“President Biden and his legal team omitted months of communications, planning, and coordinating among multiple White House officials, a former VP staffer, Penn Biden Center employees, and President Biden’s personal attorneys to retrieve the boxes containing classified materials,” they continued.
This comes as Special Counsel Robert Hur is continuing his investigation of Biden’s classified documents scandal. Hur’s office is reportedly trying to uncover how the then-vice president was updated about highly sensitive issues by gathering records from the early Obama administration.
Hur has conducted his high-stakes probe of a sitting president discreetly since his appointment in January, mostly avoiding public attention, in contrast to special counsel Jack Smith and the commotion surrounding his investigations into former President Donald Trump.
Witnesses told the outlet that investigators have questioned them about the use of safes and cabinets, as well as email conversations that date back as far as 2010. Authorities reportedly searched for documents dating back to Biden’s time in the Senate.
The White House, meanwhile, has reiterated that the Biden administration has cooperated with Hur’s investigation from the outset.
“The president has been interviewed as part of the investigation being led by Special Counsel Robert Hur,” said White House Counsel’s Office spokesman Ian Sams. “The voluntary interview was conducted at the White House over two days, Sunday and Monday, and concluded Monday.”
“As we have said from the beginning, the president and the White House are cooperating with this investigation, and as it has been appropriate, we have provided relevant updates publicly, being as transparent as we can consistent with protecting and preserving the integrity of the investigation. We would refer other questions to the Justice Department at this time,” Sams added.
