House Republicans will meet on Wednesday to decide if Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden should be held in contempt of Congress for not following through with a subpoena as part of the process to remove Joe Biden from office.
Hunter Biden might be jailed for contempt after he refused to follow through with a subpoena that told him to show up for an interview behind closed doors. The head of the House Oversight Committee, James Comer, said, “Our investigation has produced significant evidence suggesting President Biden knew about, participated in, and benefited from his family cashing in on the Biden name.”
They were going to question Hunter Biden about these claims, but Hunter Biden did not show up when he was asked to. In response to this, Comer said, “Hunter Biden’s willful refusal to comply with the committees’ subpoenas is a criminal act.” It goes on to say, “We will not treat Hunter Biden differently because of his last name.”
Hunter Biden first said he would appear in public, but the committee said they wouldn’t treat him any differently, so they turned down his request. Not long after that, though, Hunter Biden refused to follow the order and spoke in public outside the Capitol Building.
The House Oversight Report said, “On December 13, 2023, Robert Hunter Biden failed to comply with deposition subpoenas issued by the Committees on Oversight and Accountability and the Judiciary for testimony.” “Instead, Mr. Biden chose to read a short prepared statement in front of the Capitol,” the report said. So, Mr. Biden broke the law and needs to be punished for contempt of Congress.
During his speech at the Capitol, Hunter Biden said, “There is no evidence that my father had a financial interest in my business; it did not happen.”
As an important piece of evidence, Hunter Biden’s testimony for the impeachment inquiry meant that the committee was expecting him to say that.
They voted on Wednesday about Hunter Biden’s contempt of Congress because of this. If this meeting on Wednesday doesn’t come to a decision, Hunter Biden could be held in contempt of Congress while this case goes on.
