Antony Blinken, who is Secretary of State for the United States, arrived in Kyiv after a large package of U.S. help was delivered to Ukraine. Blinken just showed up and met with Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the President of Ukraine.
“We know this is a tough time.” But we also know that help is on its way and will be arriving soon; some of it has already come and more will soon follow. “That will really help stop the Russian aggression that is still going on the battlefield,” Blinken said.
Zelenskiy knew that the US’s help was important to their win. He thanked Blinken for the help, but he kept talking about air defense. To protect Kharkiv’s second city, he asked for two more air defense systems.
Blinken went on to say that our “biggest deficit” is our air defense systems and that Russia has been attacking us from the air from far away. “Right now, we really need two Patriots for Kharkiv and the surrounding area, where people are being attacked.” People in civilian clothes, soldiers, and everyone else are under Russian weapons, he said.
The visit comes at a very bad time for Ukraine because they are dealing with a Russian attack and are having a hard time getting new soldiers to join. They are also having trouble keeping up with Russia’s offensive.
There hasn’t been much attention on Ukraine lately because of the war in Gaza. Now, as the US election approaches, there is even more worry that the election could take attention away from Ukraine as well.
