The US has said that the weapons it has given to Israel have been “incompatible” with human rights rules around the world. The U.S. does not believe there is enough proof to connect the weapons it sent to breaches or to stop sending them.
The report raises worries about Israel’s compliance, but in the end, it says that the US doesn’t have enough proof to cut off supply to Israel. A national security memo signed by Biden told the report to look into the worries about whether countries that receive U.S. arms are following human rights laws.
A top government source said that the evaluation did look at Israel as a whole, but there was no proof that a US weapon was used in a specific case where it would have been a war crime.
“We now have a better understanding of Israel’s rules and procedures, but we still don’t have enough information to confirm if US defense articles covered by the national security memorandum were used in actions that were allegedly against international humanitarian law or international criminal law during the time of the report.”
Not long before the story came out, Biden said he had doubts about Israel’s use of US-supplied weapons. Biden said that they were the reason he decided to delay the arrival of bombs made in the United States.
People have been killed in Gaza because of those bombs and other ways they attack cities with lots of people, Biden said.
Sen. Van Hollen of the United States said that the study was “conflicting.” He said, “The administration’s report falls short in a big way when it comes to looking at specific cases of weapons use.”
