Man Falls To His Death 300 Feet High While Crossing A Mountain Ladder

A 42-year-old British man died in Austria after falling 300 feet to his death after falling off a ladder bridge in the Dachstein Mountains, a famous destination for tourists to take Instagram-worthy photos.

The “Greater” Donnerkogel, which includes the 6,740-foot peak, is connected to the smaller Donnerkogel mountain by a ladder.

The ladder is marketed as the “new TOP attraction on the Zwieselalm for climbing enthusiasts” by the Dachstein region tourist website, which notes that the climb is completed in four steps, with the ladder waiting “as the ultimate adrenaline kick.”

The climb is classified as a “iron path,” or via ferrata, which includes steel cables, rungs, pegs, and ladders that climbers are harnessed to for safety.

The body of the man was retrieved from the gorge by two helicopters and numerous officers from two adjacent police agencies.

Thousands of thrill-seekers have posted about their experiences climbing the nerve-wracking tourist attraction on Instagram, with some referring to it as “the stairway to heaven.”
