New oil and gas finds could hurt Paris’s climate goals?!

There is a lot of action in the oil and gas industry right now in the United States. Newly approved projects are causing almost four times as much oil and gas to be produced as was planned.

The Paris Climate Agreement says that the goal is to keep the rise in temperature below 1.5 degrees Celsius so that the climate control numbers are not broken. The main point of this agreement is to deal with the impact of industry on climate change. Climate change is a big issue that many people want to solve. Scientists say that as the Earth warms, there may be more heatwaves, floods, droughts, and other effects that could be dangerous to people.

More new oil has been found, and the U.S. and other countries and companies in the fossil fuel business have started to produce oil.

People say that we can’t stay below the limit set by the Paris Climate Agreement if we don’t stop or at least slow down the search for new oil and gas. Scientists say that we will reach that level within ten years.

The head of Saudi Aramco, the biggest oil company in the world, said, “People should give up on the idea of gradually getting rid of oil and gas.”

According to the project manager at Global Energy Market, the oil and gas business keeps finding and approving new projects even though it is clear that no new oil and gas fields can work with 1.5C.

At first, the United States was the clear favorite, but as the search for new oil and gas continues, South America and Africa are becoming popular spots for new fossil fuel projects.
