Gov. Gavin Newsom along with other California Democrat Leaders attended the 49-Rams game without wearing masks, defying the state’s universal mask mandate.
Newsom and the California Democrat leaders trend in social media after former Laker star Magic Johnson tweeted photos together with Newsom, Mayor Eric Garcettie, and Mayor London Breed last Sunday. None of them are wearing masks in the series of photos.
Currently, the California implemented a universal indoor mask mandate that started out in December and extended until February 15, which Newson, California dem leaders, and even Johnson have defied during their Ram-49ers game viewing.

The venue of the game, SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, also has a separate mask rule that requires viewers and fans to wear masks if they are not eating or drinking during the game viewing. Apparently, Newson and all the other people involved are not seen eating or drinking in Johnson’s uploaded photo.
Gov. Newsom has already faced a past controversy for not wearing a mask and defying state COVID-19 guidelines, protocols, and mandate by dining out and socialising with people outside his household. The incident was captured in photos and had circulated in 2020.
Erin Mellon, the communications director for Gov. Newsom’s office released a statement about the viral photo to Fox News saying that the governor acknowledges that he took off his mask for a few moments during the 49-ers game.
He continues to encourage all Californians to do their part to get through the pandemic and this latest surge, including wearing a mask and getting vaccinated,” Mellon added.
