NFL Team Makes Incredibly Bold Decision To Find A New Quarterback

Few weeks remain in the 2021 NFL season but several franchises are already focused on making changes during the offseason, including the Washington Commanders, which are in desperate need of a quarterback.

According to ESPN, the Commanders have contacted every single NFL team about a potential QB trade with 42 potential options under center.

GM Martin Mayhew told reporters recently that they considered Taylor Heinicke the “ultimate competitor” but the team is trying to upgrade its roster with a list of around 40 QBs.

There have been reports that the Commanders “made a strong” trade offer to land Russell Wilson that “didn’t go anywhere.”

During the past offseason, five quarterbacks were drafted in the first round, while Carson Wentz, Gardner Minshew II, Matthew Stafford, Jared Goff, Teddy Bridgewater, and Sam Darnold were all traded.

It is expected that there will be a similar amount of quarterback movement this offseason, with Jameis Winston, Cam Newton, Andy Dalton, and Bridgewater scheduled to hit the free-agent market.

ESPN made a projection last month about the upcoming offseason’s quarterback changes, predicting that “Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson could determine how the quarterback market shifts this offseason.”

“Rob Demovsky will play GM for the Packers, while Brady Henderson serves as the decision-maker for the Seahawks for the offers below from other NFL Nation reporters, standing in as their teams’ GMs,” the sports website said in their projection.

To simulate the starting quarterback changes, ESPN writers looked for teams that could theoretically make a change during the offseason, and 20 of the 32 franchises jumped out.

“Then we asked our NFL Nation reporters to serve as GMs for their teams and decide what to do at their most important position. The stand-in GMs put together trade packages for Rodgers, Wilson and others. They pitched offers to free agents,” read in ESPN’s article.

“We kept this exercise to quarterbacks who will either start or compete to start in 2022, with the exception of a few QBs in this draft class who might sit right out of the gate.”

And finally, they made a mock of the first two rounds of the 2022 draft.
