Delivery drivers formerly ensured that no one needed to leave the house for food or supplies, but their function as the final link in the Covid-19 vaccine supply chain has increased in importance.
While some consumers may continue to be concerned about the transmission of COVID-19, our delivery workers are always worried about violence when they visit houses, as reported here.
Authorities said Friday that a food delivery worker in Manhattan was hit in the head with a baseball bat and a stick by a gang of eight guys.
At around 9:15 p.m., the 29-year-old victim was jumped outside a building on the corner of Saint Nicholas Avenue and West 179th Street, where he was delivering an order. Tuesday, officers reported.
Police revealed surveillance footage showing the delivery driver standing next to his parked bike, wearing a fluorescent orange vest and carrying his phone – when one of the suspects strikes him.
He flees the frame, chased by some of the group’s members. Cops claimed one of the males struck him with a bat and another with a stick.
The delivery man could flee to safety within the Washington Heights building.
Fortunately, the bicycle helmet he was wearing protected his head, and according to authorities, he did not require medical assistance at the site.
The NYPD is asking for the public’s help in identifying the perpetrators. Anyone with information on this event is requested to contact the New York City Police Department’s Crime Stoppers Hotline.
Even though the future of delivery is still up in the air, many operators are striving hard to remain relevant and provide an outstanding service even if they jeopardize their health and safety.
