Eric Adams, the Democratic Mayor of New York City, criticized President Joe Biden for not doing enough to stop the influx of migrants into large cities like New York.
New York Fox News affiliate station asked Adams about where Biden has been in relation to the border problem, which has only gotten worse since the lifting of the Title 42 immigration policy last week.
“I think we should all be asking why this is happening to a city that is turning itself around and will continue to do so,” Adams responded to what he referred to as a “good question.”
This should not be happening to New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles and the other big northern cities, and really should not be happening to El Paso or Brownsville, Texas,” he continued.
Adams implies that it is not fair for cities to bear the brunt of the costs associated with it. He is likely referring to the fact that cities with large immigrant populations often have to deal with higher crime rates, lower wages, and increased strain on public services.
He argues that illegal immigration is a national problem, and he is calling for a national solution to it.
As concerns over the reelection campaign of Biden rises, Adams continues to attack the president from his own party, a stance that some Democrats secretly applaud.
After it was claimed that the president “failed” New York by managing the asylum-seeker problem poorly, Adams was secretly pulled from the ambassador program of the White House, which is administered by elected officials committed to spreading the president’s message locally.
Republicans like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Texas Governor Greg Abbott, and others have bussed a significant number of immigrants into Democratic-controlled cities like New York in an effort to ridicule the party’s immigration gaffes.
President Biden has presided over a sharp rise in illegal border crossings since entering office, which had fallen to historic lows under former president Donald Trump.
The repeal of Title 42, a policy created during the Trump era which has permitted the swift deportation of migrants who entered the country illegally, indicates that migrants will now be permitted to keep staying in the country while their applications for asylum are reviewed.
