Former President Barack Obama reportedly warned President Joe Biden that his predecessor, Donald Trump, poses a threat to Democrats in the 2024 presidential election.
According to The Washington Post, Obama warned Biden that Trump is a more formidable political opponent than the Democratic Party understands during a lunch meeting at the White House in June.

Obama raised concerns about Trump’s “political strengths — including an intensely loyal following, a Trump-friendly conservative media ecosystem and a polarized country — underlining his worry that Trump could be a more formidable candidate than many Democrats realize,” according to the newspaper.
He also pledged to help Biden win re-election and will begin campaigning for his former running mate this fall.
“President Biden is grateful for his unwavering support, and looks forward to once again campaigning side-by-side with President Obama to win in 2024 and finish the job for the American people,” the Biden campaign said.
Sources told The Washington Post that Obama’s concerns are not so much about Biden’s political abilities as they are about Trump’s ability to remain a strong presidential contender despite facing legal problems and a crowded field of Republicans seeking the GOP candidacy.
This comes as Democrats are in panic mode after a 10-point drop in Black voter turnout during the 2022 midterm elections compared to 2018, making it the biggest decline of any other ethnic group in the U.S.
Black voters were critical of Biden’s victory in 2020, and their support will once again play a pivotal role in his reelection bid. Recent polls and interviews, however, show that this demographic is becoming increasingly disillusioned, particularly among younger Black voters and Black men.
The Democratic Party also looks divided on the likelihood of Biden running for office again in 2024. While just nearly half of all Democrats want the president to run again, a sizable 81 percent say they would likely or definitely support him if he were to become the nominee.
But this enthusiasm is less strong among Black adults, with only 41 percent wanting Biden to run and only 55 percent saying they would likely vote for him in the election.
