Philadelphia Preps For Possibility Of Migrant Buses Arriving

In the issue that Governor Greg Abbott chooses Philadelphia as the next departure point for migrants being shuttled to cities run by Democrats, Philadelphia officials are preparing the city to welcome buses of migrants from Texas.

Kevin Lessard, a spokesman for Democratic Mayor Jim Kenney, told Axios that “the city is inventorying available options should anyone seeking safe sanctuary make their way to Philadelphia.”

That migrant buses from Texas would be sent to Philadelphia has not been confirmed. According to Kenney’s office, if buses are diverted to the City of Brotherly Love, there won’t be any notification, according to Axios. Sunday’s request for a response from Fox News Digital was not immediately answered by Kenney’s office.

Greg Abbott, the governor of Texas and a Republican, has since April dispatched buses conveying more than 7,600 migrants to Washington, D.C. The governor started dispatching migrant busloads to Chicago at the end of August and New York City early last month. As of now, 1,900 migrants have been transported by bus to New York City, according to a prior report from Fox News Digital.

When Fox News Digital contacted Abbott’s office for comment on whether buses will be dispatched to Philadelphia, they did not answer right away. When asked whether additional cities will receive migrant busloads, an Abbott official did advise Axios to “stay tuned.”

President Biden has come under fire from conservative leaders in border states and all over the nation for his immigration reforms in the midst of the border crisis. These policies include ending the Trump administration’s “Remain in Mexico” policy, announcing an ultimately unsuccessful strategy to grant citizenship to 11 million illegal immigrants at the beginning of his presidency, and relaxing border security procedures.

Democratic leaders who oppose the practice of busing migrants have received repeated messages from Abbott and his administration urging them to speak with Biden about border security.

Mayor of Chicago Lori Lightfoot questioned Abbott’s Christian faith as buses landed in Chicago last weekend, joining New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Bowser in criticizing Abbott over the tactic.

At a news conference on Sunday, Lightfoot stated, “He professes to be a Christian.” He continued by saying, this is not the Christianity or the Bible’s doctrines that I am familiar with, and I believe that religious leaders all around the nation are speaking out against it.

Attacking the governor’s adherence to his faith, according to Abbott’s office, is “a sad political tactic to divert attention from Mayor Lightfoot’s inability to respect her city’s self-declared sanctuary status,” Fox News Digital reported last week.
