Pope Stresses Gun Control Is Needed In The United States

One of the most horrible gun-shooting incidents on school grounds occurred on Tuesday. In response, many grieved for the unnecessary deaths, and those in the Vatican City were also alarmed.

The killing at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, has torn the heart of Pope Francis, who thinks that the United States must do more to prevent the proliferation of weapons.

During his weekly public audience in St. Peter’s Square on Wednesday, Pope Francis said: “I’m praying for the families of the victims and their loved ones. Gun trafficking has gone too far, and it is time to end the scourge of violence.”

Nineteen schoolchildren and two adults were killed in the incident by the 18-year-old gunman. After his most recent birthday, the 18-year-old shooter, who lived in Uvalde, apparently purchased at least two semi-automatic firearms.

The pope urged people to act immediately to prevent a repeat of this catastrophe. Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, archbishop of Chicago, echoed his opinion.

As Cupich pointed out on Twitter, the Second Amendment did not descend from Sinai. “Human life is more important than the right to bear weapons. Our children are entitled to the same protections as adults. And our elected representatives have a moral obligation to safeguard them.”

Research has demonstrated that the federal prohibition on particular guns, which expired in 2004, successfully reduced the fear of mass shootings, according to the cardinal.

“My thoughts keep returning to the question: Who are we as a society if we don’t act to safeguard our children in the wake of the latest American massacre? Do we care more about our tools of death or the future we’ll create together?” Cupich inquired on the matter.

Since January 1, there have been 27 school shootings in the United States, according to Education Week, which analyzes gun violence on school grounds.

Only a tiny percentage of all gun-related deaths are caused by school shootings, which account for only a tiny percentage of all gun-related deaths. There is an ever-increasing threat to the nation’s children and teens from gun violence, suicide, or accidental shootings at home when weapons are left unattended.

In Texas, even if there will be debates about small changes and popular support for stricter gun laws in the coming weeks, the political truth is that three decades of Republican rule in the state have eliminated the middle ground in the debate. Due to pressure from a religiously conservative movement and gun-industry profiteers, state elected officials have opted for the road of most minor regulation, which has resulted in increased gun ownership.
