As Biden was leaving a dinner in Wilmington, Delaware, he was startled by a car crash that took place right near him. On Sunday night, a car struck an SUV that was a part of President Biden’s motorcade just as they were leaving the dinner.
The accident occurred while Biden was answering a question from a reporter, surprising everyone close by. It’s said that Biden was attending a dinner with staff at his campaign headquarters in Delaware at the time of the accident.
Biden was quickly escorted by Secret Service agents to his car after the incident to ensure his safety and in anticipation of any other incidents that may occur. Luckily it seems to have been a random occurence.
Wilmington police stated that A 46-year-old man from Wilmington had been charged with driving under the influence and inattentive driving after the accident occurred. They also stated that the car collision appeared to be accidental.
“The Wilmington Police Department is investigating the motor vehicle collision, which did not result in any injuries. Investigators are also working to determine if impairment was a factor,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
Both President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden were unharmed in the collisions and nobody else from the President’s motorcade was harmed.
The U.S Secret Service stated that there was no harm done to Biden and they did not feel that there was any sort of threat towards him following the incident.
“Today, at approximately 8:09 p.m., a Secret Service vehicle securing the President’s motorcade route was struck by another vehicle in Wilmington, DE. There was no protective interest associated with this event and the President’s motorcade departed without incident,” the statement read.
