Protecting Her Two Children, Louisiana Woman Fatally Shoots Home Intruder

A mother in Louisiana shot and killed a suspected intruder on Sunday morning, according to reports.

The incident occurred on Jan. 8 when deputies responded to reports of shots fired at a Hammond residence on Klein Road, where a mother of two had just shot an armed intruder.

“During the course of the investigation, detectives were able to determine the suspect, later identified as 51 year old Robert Rheams of Hammond, was armed with a shovel and a lug wrench when he forced entry into the home of the victim and her two young children,” the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office wrote in its report.

The report stated that a physical altercation took place between Rheams and the homeowner, which led to the mother shooting Rheams. He was later pronounced deceased on scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office.

Investigators said that Rheams was out on parole after serving around 20 years in prison for armed robbery and was tied to a carjacking just hours before the home invasion.

No arrests were made in the investigation, and the homeowner was ruled to be exercising her second amendment rights to protect herself and her children from a violent home invasion.

Similarly, a Texas mother fatally shot an intruder who broke into her home while her three children were asleep last year.

According to police, the incident happened around 10 p.m. at the woman’s home on Kashmuir Place in San Antonio when she heard someone trying to enter the main door from the laundry room.

That’s when the homeowner saw the burglar, 41-year-old Roman Rodriguez, and shot him twice in the chest. When police arrived, they found Rodriguez’s bloodied body in the backyard. He was taken to the hospital but later died from his injuries.

Three children were inside the home at the time of the shooting, but no one else was physically hurt in the incident.

The unidentified mother also did not face any charges due to the so-called “Castle Doctrine,” which allows the use of force against another person who is unlawfully and with force entering or attempting to enter your habitation, vehicle, or workplace.
