Both Vladimir Putin of Russia and Xi Jinping of China have said that they want to work together in a “new era.” After walking the red carpet in Beijing’s Great Hall of the People, Xi and Putin met. When they made a “no limits” deal in 2022, just days before Russia attacked Ukraine, they talked about working together.
On Thursday, they signed a statement about a “new era” in which they said they were against security problems involving the US and agreed on how to handle situations in Ukraine, Taiwan, and North Korea.
Xi told Putin at their meeting, “The relationship between China and Russia is precious and needs to be cared for.” He went on, “China is willing to jointly achieve the development and rejuvenation of our respective countries, and work together to uphold fairness and justice in the world.”
A war in Ukraine was happening in Russia, and the US was putting pressure on China. These two countries were in similar strategic situations.
According to the US, China is their biggest rival and Russia is their biggest danger. It is worth noting that Biden has called Xi Jinping a “dictator” and Vladimir Putin a “killer” and “crazy SOB.”
President Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping met not long after US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken visited Putin to talk about worries about China’s backing for the Russian military. As this conversation goes on, they’ve become more of a team since Blinken’s stay.
Putin talked about how Russia works with Xi and with the US.
“The United States still thinks in terms of the Cold War and is guided by the logic of bloc confrontation, putting the security of ‘narrow groups’ above regional security and stability, which creates a security threat for all countries in the region,” said Putin’s statement. “The U.S. must abandon this behavior.”
