Representative Glenn Thompson Diagnosed with Cancer

Republican Pennsylvania Rep. Glenn Thompson disclosed on Tuesday that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

In a statement on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, Thompson detailed his cancer diagnosis.

“After a routine physical and subsequent tests, I was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. While this diagnosis is a surprise, I feel well, and I will continue my work representing the people of Pennsylvania’s 15th District,” he wrote.

“Anyone who’s worked with me knows I am a person of faith as well as an eternal optimist, both of which will guide me as I undergo treatment. I am grateful to my medical team, my family, everyone I work with and represent in Congress,” he continued. “My faith in God is strong and I will tackle this head on. I appreciate both prayers and privacy during this time.”

Thompson has represented the 15th Congressional District of Pennsylvania since 2019, and his current term ends in 2025. He also serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Agriculture.

A number of his colleagues showed their support for Thompson, including North Carolina Rep. Dan Bishop of North Carolina and Arkansas Sen. John Boozman.

“Sending you strength, courage, and best wishes for a speedy recovery, Mr. Chairman,” said Salinas.

“Chairman Thompson is a fighter. I am confident he will handle this challenge with courage and strength. We’re all pulling for him and praying for a speedy recovery,” said Boozman.

“Sad to hear my friend GT Thompson has been diagnosed with cancer. GT’s a fighter—he’ll keep working hard for Pennsylvania as he takes on this new battle,” said House Majority Leader Steve Scalise. “Join me in praying for him & his family. I know firsthand that prayers work. Jennifer & I wish him a quick & easy recovery.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, prostate cancer is one of the most common types of cancer but has the best chance of successful treatment if detected early.

“Many prostate cancers grow slowly and are confined to the prostate gland, where they may not cause serious harm. However, while some types of prostate cancer grow slowly and may need minimal or even no treatment, other types are aggressive and can spread quickly,” the website’s description read.
