A sheriff in Florida just recently spoke out against renters in the state and is now sending a scary message.
Squatters were warned by Florida Sheriff Grady Judd: “If you come to this community and break the state laws, the people’s laws will lock you up.”
Right after this, Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill that would take away squatters’ rights and make it harder for people to break the law. But Judd agreed with DeSantis’ choice to pass this rule. He said that this could lead other counties to do the same thing to fight the problem.
He went on to say that he didn’t understand why squatters weren’t already being charged with crimes like burglary or trespassing in other states. He talked about putting squatters in jail because they were found when someone went to look at a house.
Judd said, “That’s why I don’t know what the laws could be that would let someone break into your home without you being there and take it over.” I have no idea what it means.
A lot of people talked about how other states and towns let squatters take over and put their rights ahead of those of “good people.” They were told by the Sheriff that he didn’t understand why they could do these things without much pain.
He said in his speech, “You break the law, and I will be your worst enemy.” It was emphasized by Judd that the rules are meant to make criminals feel safe, not to keep people safe.
In the past, Sheriff Judd has been in the news for saying that thieves should be shot until they look like “grated cheese.”
