The most recent shipping data shows that people will be looking for deals in the middle price band during the busiest shopping season. A survey called the Supply Chain Survey says that people will buy a wider range of goods during the holiday season.
They can guess that U.S. companies will bring in more goods for the holidays than they did last year based on the number of freight orders that are set to move during peak season. When you really looked at the numbers, you could see that more than 80% of the sales were priced in the middle. Over the past few years, people have become less interested in imported luxury goods and things that people want to own.
Noah Hoffman, who is in charge of store logistics at C.H. Robinson, says that this is because of inflation. He says, “We’re seeing that in clothing and jewelry, in electronics, and in home and garden.”
“Consumers have also become more value-driven in their shopping,” he said. They don’t want to spend more money, so they’re not going to one store and buying a lot of toilet paper, even though they already have a lot in the garage. They are more careful about what they buy and don’t put as many casual purchases in the cart. Instead, they are looking for the best deal.
Seventy percent of those polled thought that people would continue to look for deals. “Many shippers are very sensitive to the highs and lows of the highs and lows,” Hoffman said.
Companies like Walmart say that their customer base has grown because people who buy expensive things are starting to shop with them in-store and online.
