These Chinese balloons have been seen a lot and have been seen moving across the East, but not much is known about what they are or why they are there. Many people don’t even know if these balloons are used for military purposes, but Taiwan sees them as an attempt to annoy them.
There have been Chinese balloons flying over Taiwan before the presidential election. They said this was harassment because of their history with China and the upcoming election. China has made threats against them as they try to strengthen their freedom. These balloons have not been deemed a necessary threat, but Taiwan is seeing them that way.
People from China have even brought these kites to the US. Last year, Biden said that the US needs better ways to track and identify strange aerial objects. This was because the US had seen a Chinese spy balloon flying across the country, which made everyone very worried, including the government.
The US said it was a military ship, so they shot it down and said they found “sophisticated surveillance equipment.” China, on the other hand, said it wasn’t a military balloon and was just a weather balloon, but many people didn’t believe them.
They call these strategies “gray area tactics” and they’ve been used by China for a while to make their enemies afraid and worried without going to war. They have used this to “prove themselves” not to be using military methods, even though it looks like they are. it blurs the lines between civilian and military actions.
A lot of people are worried about this in many places, especially in Taiwan and the US.
So, Taiwan said they had seen four Chinese airplanes, four Chinese navy ships, and Chinese balloons in the area.
