Staggering Number of Republicans Think McConnell Should Resign

New poll shows that a large number of Republican voters want Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell to resign following health concerns.

The survey, conducted by Rasmussen Reports, asked respondents whether they “agree or disagree that Mitch McConnell should resign his position as Senate minority leader?”

74 percent of those who answered said that the Kentucky Republican should resign as GOP Senate minority leader, while only 17 percent disagreed. 73 percent of Democrats agreed.

Among those who said McConnell should resign, 49 percent strongly agreed, while another 25 percent “somewhat agreeing.”

As for McConnell’s approval, only 34 percent approve of his performance, with seven percent answering “very favorable.” 27 percent said they had a “somewhat favorable” impression. 12 percent of Democrats had a “very favorable” impression of the senator.

The poll surveyed 1,062 likely voters and was conducted between September 3 and 5, with a margin of error of only three percent.

This comes after McConnell has often been seen freezing during public appearances, prompting questions over his physical and mental capabilities to serve.

“Severe aging health issues and/or mental health incompetence in our nation’s leaders MUST be addressed,” Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene wrote on the social media platform X. “Biden, McConnell, Feinstein, and Fetterman are examples of people who are not fit for office and it’s time to be serious about it.”

“It looks like he’s gonna have a stroke,” political commentator Bill O’Reilly said of the 81-year-old’s freezing incidents. “Every American should email Senator McConnell’s office tomorrow, every American and say, ‘Please, please resign for the sake of your health.’”

Conservative activist Ned Ryun also called for McConnell’s resignation, calling him “very much expendable.”

McConnell, however, has refused to step down from his post and reiterated that he will finish both his terms as a leader and in the Senate.

“I have no announcements to make on that subject,” he said during a press conference on Wednesday. “I have no announcements to make on that subject,” McConnell said during a press conference on Wednesday.

Physician Brian Monahan claimed that the lawmaker’s recent freezing events were “not uncommon in concussion recovery and can also be expected as a result of dehydration.”
