As the next election slowly creeps up, many are deciding which candidate will be getting their vote while some states are trying to limit who they can vote for.
Colorado is now trying to ban Donald Trump from the ballot so that he has no chance of winning their state in the upcoming presidential election. Other states have tried to take this same approach, citing the 14th Amendment, but most have not stuck; Colorado is the first state to truly continue with this ruling.
The Colorado Supreme Court initiated the ruling, and the Supreme Court has 2 weeks to decide the outcome of it. Despite the court being a majority Democrat, many are saying that this ruling is unfair.
Even competitors of Trump such as Nikki Haley, Ron DeSantis, and Chris Christie explained that they would like to beat him in the race, but not because of a court ruling.
The controversy comes in when you look at how much people are trying to take Trump out and to what lengths they will go to do so. First the indictment, then comparing him to Hitler, and now trying to ban him off of a ballot, it seems like people will go to extreme lengths to prevent another Trump presidency.
The lawsuit itself was filed by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, CREW, which shows that they will go to any means necessary. The ruling itself is backed by Section 3 of the post-Civil War 14th Amendment which states that anyone who held office, took an oath, but engaged in insurrection would be disqualified from running again in the office.
“We do not reach these conclusions lightly,” the majority wrote. “We are mindful of the magnitude and weight of the questions now before us. We are likewise mindful of our solemn duty to apply the law, without fear or favor, and without being swayed by public reaction to the decisions that the law mandates we reach.”
The problem doesn’t involve Trump’s illegal participation, but rather whether or not the courts have the authority to make the ruling they’re trying to make.
“Unsurprisingly,” a campaign spokesman said, “the all-Democrat appointed Colorado Supreme Court has ruled against President Trump, supporting a Soros-funded, left-wing group’s scheme to interfere in an election on behalf of Crooked Joe Biden by removing President Trump’s name from the ballot and eliminating the rights of Colorado voters to vote for the candidate of their choice.”
It seems that this decision may not make it beyond the court and that Trump is on his way to winning despite not having Colorado on his side.
