Teacher Thrown in Jail After Refusing to Use Student’s Preferred Pronouns

A teacher in Ireland was put behind bars for allegedly refusing to “call a boy a girl,” according to reports.

Enoch Burke, who teaches history, politics, and German at Wilson’s Hospital School was arrested on Monday after he violated a court order prohibiting him from teaching classes or even being present on the school’s campus in Westmeath.

Burke reportedly refused to call a student who was transitioning from male to identifying as female as “they” instead of “he,” prompting school officials to place him on paid administrative leave until a disciplinary process is completed.

“I love my school, with its motto, Res Non Verba, [which means] ‘Actions Not Words,’” he told the court. “But I am here today because I said I would not call a boy a girl.”

He was later locked behind bars after he refused to stay away from his classroom in protest.

“Transgenderism is against my Christian belief,” Burke told High Court Judge Michael Quinn. “It is contrary to the Scriptures, contrary to the ethos of the Church of Ireland, and of my school.”

“I am a teacher and I don’t want to go to prison,” he continued. “I want to be in my classroom today. That’s where I was this morning when I was arrested.”

Burke, who has no criminal record, is expected to be moved in with the general prison population on Tuesday with other nonviolent offenders.

This comes as radical leftists all over the world continue to shove their woke ideologies into schools. Similarly in the U.S., parents in Massachusetts sued a group of teachers and administrators, alleging that the school committee violated their rights as parents by failing to disclose students’ gender identities.

A lawsuit was filed earlier this year in federal court by the Massachusetts Family Institute and the Child and Parental Rights Campaign on behalf of two sets of parents who claim their children were encouraged by their teachers at Baird Middle School to adopt news and pronouns without parental consent.

The students were also told they could use the restroom or locker room that matched their gender identity, the lawsuit states. The lawsuit claims that the district’s policy of affirming students’ gender identities violates both state and federal law.
