The Smokehouse Creek Fire, Texas’s biggest fire, has burned over a million acres and is almost under control. However, wildfires may not end in Texas for a while.
Fears of “extremely critical fire weather” have been raised by officials, who say that the current fires could make it easy for more to start in the Panhandle and nearby areas.
In the Texas Panhandle, the Texas A&M Forest Service said, “Today, the fire environment will support the potential for multiple, high-impact, large wildfires that are very hard to control.” It’s possible for wildfires to start in the Southern Plains. As they went on, they said that if any more fires started, it might not be possible for them to put them out.
In Texas, the National Weather Service said that the grass is very dry and that there will be strong winds. These are perfect conditions for fires, especially since there isn’t much moisture in the air. In its warning, the service said, “The southern Texas Panhandle is likely to have the highest fire weather threat.” Please do not do anything outside that could cause sparks or fires on purpose.
The weather for wildfires won’t last long because a cold front is coming through and lowering the chances of fire weather. The state can’t accept much more from the fires because they’ve cost both the state and the people who lost everything in the fires a lot of money. Also, many farmers have said that the fires have hurt their cattle and crops.
