The EU is now looking into Alibaba’s AliExpress?!

AliExpress is now the subject of a formal investigation by the European Commission.

Alibaba is a Chinese company that runs AliExpress, which is a huge online store. A review has been started to see if there is any illegal or sexual content on the website. The new Digital Services Act just went into effect this month, and they are looking into violations that would be against it.

The authorities are checking to see if the company has broken the new law in “areas related to the management and mitigation of risks, to content moderation and the internal complaint handling mechanism, to the transparency of advertising and recommender systems, to the traceability of traders and to researchers’ access to data.”

Such possible violations include breaking AliExpress’s terms and conditions, which forbid things like fake drugs and other things that could hurt someone. Also, they will look into violations that let kids see pornography, which the commission said is still possible on the site.

Aside from these violations, they will also look into how AliExpress suggests certain goods to customers and make sure they follow ad rules.

Someone from AliExpress said, “We have been working with the relevant authorities and will continue to work with them to make sure we comply with applicable standards and will continue to make sure we will be able to meet the requirements of the DSA.”

“AliExpress is dedicated to making the marketplace safe and legal for all customers,” the representative said.

In the past few months, the DSA has looked into a number of sites, such as X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok.
