The UN is trying to make Israel answer for war crimes?!

A decision from the U.N. Human Rights Council says that Israel should be charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity for the violence in Gaza.

The UNHRC vote is another one in favor of a settlement to the war that is still going on in Gaza. Twenty-eight countries voted in favor of the motion, thirteen countries did not vote, and six countries, including the United States, voted against it.

The resolution put a lot of stress on “the need to hold those responsible for all violations of international humanitarian law and international human rights law accountable in order to end impunity.” There were reports of “serious violations of human rights and grave breaches of international humanitarian law, including possible war crimes and crimes against humanity in the occupied Palestinian territory,” which showed a lot of worry.

The decision came soon after US Vice President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu talked on the phone. Biden mostly talked about the push for Israel to change how they do things so they can get help on the call. After this, Israel reopened the gates at Erez and let aid groups use the Ashdod port temporarily, both of which they had been asking for.

Biden also asked Netanyahu to be more open to discussing the release of hostages. And for the first time ever, Biden told Netanyahu that he should agree to a ceasefire right away. Before this, the US either voted against or didn’t vote at all for a resolution calling for a quick end to the fighting.
