China tried to claim Arunachal Pradesh, but the US said no and called it a “unilateral attempt” to claim land.
India and China, which share a border, are already having a hard time because of this claim and rejection. China recently claimed that Arunachal Pradesh is part of Southern Tibet. India, however, said that Arunachal Pradesh has always been a part of India and has no such claim.
The US says that Arunachal Pradesh is Indian territory and strongly opposes any effort by one country to assert its territorial claims through military or civilian incursions or encroachments across the Line of Actual Control, according to a spokesperson.
Michael Kugelman, head of the South Asia Institute at the Wilson Center, spoke out. He said that the US doesn’t usually get involved in border disputes between India and Pakistan, but that they are on India’s side this time.
Some people said that the fact that the US stood with India shows how far the relationship between the two countries has come.
In Arunachal Pradesh, India built the world’s biggest two-lane tunnel, which made China talk about who owned the land. Senior Colonel Zhang Xiaogang, who works for China’s Ministry of National Defense, said, “China never recognizes and strongly opposes India’s illegal establishment of the so-called ‘Arunachal Pradesh.'”
China and India have been at odds for a long time. The most recent major increase cost both sides a lot.
China just recently spoke out again to take the land back. Their answer from India’s Foreign Ministry was, “Arunachal Pradesh was, is, and will always be an integral and inalienable part of India.”
