A top Republican lawmaker called for the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas just hours after the White House lifted Title 42 and unleashed migrant chaos.
The Trump-era pandemic immigration restriction which allowed border and immigration authorities to swiftly turn back migrants who arrived at the southern border, was allowed to expire this week.
“He should be impeached,” said Rep. Tom Emmer, the House GOP Whip, and third-ranking Republican in the chamber, told Breitbart Friday.
“They talk about being humane. Children are disappearing. People are getting killed … You’ve got 80 people that have come across the southern border that are on the terrorist watch list.”
Emmer said the issue lay squarely at Mayorkas’ feet.
“This, to me, is the greatest malfeasance, and malfeasance is — it’s not a failure to act — it’s an intentional failure to act,” Emmer continued. “I think we should be talking seriously about that regardless of what this feckless Senate might want to do.”
Emmer is far from the first member of the House GOP conference to call for Mayorkas’ ouster.
In August 2021, Arizona Rep. Andy Biggs introduced a bill to impeach the secretary which secured 32 Republican co-sponsors.
