Tower Global Bets That AI Will Help Them Predict The Weather Better

As Spire Global announces its new relationship with Nvidia, they are betting that AI will help them make more accurate weather predictions. Artificial intelligence has already been a big part of predicting the weather, but new developments in the field could make it even better.

“Deep learning, neural networks, and generative AI have moved some power from people who have access to supercomputers to people who have access to super data,” said Peter Platzer, CEO and co-founder of Spire Global.

He also said that working with Nvidia would speed up the process of starting some programs so that they would only take minutes instead of hours.

Radio frequency data from space is collected by Spire Global. This data can be examined and also sold as a service. This is what Platzer meant when he said that the weather business has a big opportunity and that people want more accurate forecasts.

Platzer says that these goals will be easier to reach with the help of the relationship. Platzer explained, “It gives them access to our infrastructure so we can serve our customers better by giving them access to more valuable products and new use cases. In turn, we give them access to our data so they can improve their modeling and machinery.”

People have pointed out that the companies don’t exchange cash with each other and that the relationship is more of a way for them to work together on technologies and skills.

We saw the first part of this new weather prediction program from the CEO of Nvidia. It’s a digital Earth that works with the open cloud platform, CorrDiff, and Spire’s satellite data to make climate forecasts better.

Two partners helped the company raise $30 million, which, according to Spire’s CEO, will help them keep improving technology and make the business more profitable.
