Since Russia’s invasion, the United States has provided military support to Ukraine, and Ukrainians are putting them to good use.
According to statements made by American and Ukrainian officials to The New York Times on Friday, a sophisticated rocket system delivered to Ukraine by the United States is significantly influencing the country’s ongoing conflict against Russia.
Amid Ukraine’s counteroffensive in the Donbas, four High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems have been deployed to the front lines. Officials from Ukraine believe that their country needs almost 300 more of these weapons to compete with the Kremlin.
“Because it is a more precise and longer-range system, Ukrainians can choose targets that would hinder Russian efforts more methodically… than they would be able to accomplish with the shorter-range artillery systems,” a Pentagon source told The Hill.
“What you see is that the Ukrainians are systematically identifying targets and then correctly attacking them, offering this, you know, exact means of reducing Russian capabilities,” the person stated. “I believe they will be able to utilize this strategy over all of Donbas.”
Other sources from the Pentagon and military analysts have told The Times that Ukrainian forces are making efficient use of the weapons by launching one or two guided rockets against important Russian locations throughout the night.
Rob Lee, a Russian military researcher at the Foreign Policy Research Institute, stated that “so far, it would appear that they would be fairly valuable as an addition. They will help block additional Russian advances, but that does not necessarily guarantee that Ukraine will be able to take back the land once they are implemented.”
According to Reuters, President Joe Biden announced on the same day that he offered an additional $800 million help to Ukraine during the NATO meeting on Thursday.
Biden assured those in attendance at the event in Madrid, “We are going to assist Ukraine for as long as it takes.”
The United States provided $40 billion in May after the initial aid to Ukraine at the beginning of the war. Though helping other nations is a significant matter, and for peace to be reclaimed again, I think it is better to focus on resolving inflation first.
