The United States helps and funds the UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees). Senator Ted Cruz recently spoke out against this. It was his opinion that the US should stop giving money to this group because it helps the terrorist group Hamas.
The United States has been giving money to UNRWA for a long time. Since 2021, they have given up to $1 billion.
Cruz said, “UNRWA directly helps Hamas by sending resources across the Gaza Strip that go straight into the Hamas war machine. This means that their activities cause direct harm to Israelis and Americans.” “The US should stop giving money to UNRWA right away and work to find a better organization to take its place.”
Biden’s funding is kind of in the middle, and a lot of government officials say that the US is helping the terrorist group Hamas instead of protecting Israel. A huge amount of trouble has been caused by it.
In his latest attack on US help, Cruz said, “Nobody denies that aid that goes into the Gaza Strip.” When Joe Biden became president, his government knew that giving UNRWA aid again would help Hamas terrorists in a way that was against the law, but they found ways to get around those laws and did it anyway.
Some people help the UNRWA because they think they do important work. A spokeswoman for the U.N. National Security Council, John Kirby, said, “They’re doing a lot of work, and they’re doing it in harm’s way—very much so in harm’s way.”
However, a lot of people are looking into the group to see if UNRWA means well in the Middle East. According to a report from Fox Digital, many teachers and children at UNRWA schools were happy about the attacks on October 7, 2023.
Even with these claims, a UNRWA spokesperson said, “Attacks like these try to discredit the Agency, even though it does lifesaving work.” The newest video going around on X uses clips of alleged “UNRWA” kids and teachers to try to connect the school system with violence.
Schools and hospitals run by UNRWA have been used by Hamas to store weapons. This is just one of many problems with the organization. As other people have said, the US has no say over what the UNRWA does with the money. This includes letting Hamas soldiers and weapons stay in their buildings.
