US “Strategic Partner” Issues Warrant for Arrest of Former President Donald Trump

The head of Iraq’s “Supreme Judicial Council” has issued an arrest warrant for former President Donald Trump for the alleged assassination of an Iraqi commander.

Baghdad Today reported that Faiq Zaidan, the President of the Supreme Judicial Council,  issued an arrest warrant for Trump on Thursday. Zaidan is urging those looking into the assassination of the Quds Force commander, Qasem Soleimani, and chief of staff of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) in Iraq, Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, to make an exceptional effort to find the perpetrators.

“Why has he [Trump] not yet been held accountable for this heinous crime?” Zaidan asked.

This could jeopardize the United States’ relationship with Iraq, given that the latter is a close strategic partner and ally.

“The U.S. Mission in Iraq is dedicated to our enduring strategic partnership with the Government of Iraq and the Iraqi people. The United States government and the U.S. Mission to Iraq are fully engaged with our Iraqi partners and the Iraqi people in our efforts to support a stable, prosperous, democratic, and unified Iraq,” the U.S. State Department said of the country’s relations with Iraq.

Iraq, OPEC’s second-largest oil producer, is caught between rivals Iran and the U.S., while Iran’s power has exploded since Saddam Hussein was overthrown in 2003 after an American invasion.

In October, Iraq’s parliament appointed a new pro-Iranian prime minister. After Shi’ite rival Moqtada al Sadr, who had been crippling the government with anti-Iranian rallies, was cast aside, pro-Iranian parties now rule the country.

As for Trump, he is also currently the subject of a $250 million lawsuit for allegedly participating in a massive financial fraud scheme.

“We’re filing a lawsuit against Donald Trump for violating the law as part of his efforts to generate profits for himself, his family, and his company,” New York Attorney General Letitia James said in October. “The complaint demonstrates that Donald Trump falsely inflated his net worth by billions of dollars to unjustly enrich himself, and to cheat the system, thereby cheating all of us.”

James is trying to prevent the Trump Organization from moving assets and restructuring the business to allegedly “evade liability.”
