States are now voting on whether or not they will be keeping Donald Trump on their ballots and the verdicts are beginning to come in.
On Thursday, California’s Secretary of State said that Donald Trump will stay on the 2024 ballot for their state. Before this, we have seen states such as Maine and Colorado attempt to boot him off of the ballot.
Despite the decision to keep him on the ballot, there was a lot of push to remove him due to the same reasons that states such as Colorado and Maine took him off. Due to his role in trying to overturn the 2020 election and the chaos that commenced during the riot afterward, Trump is accused of violating the 14th Amendment.
Colorado is currently awaiting a decision from the Supreme Court regarding removing him from the ballot, and Maine also disqualified Trump from their ballot due to his role at the Capitol building on January 6.
Trump was indicted on conspiracy to defraud the US government, obstruction of an official proceeding, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights. However, Trump has not been convicted of any crimes yet as he awaits his trial for the January 6 events.
Many have found this to be unfair since he hasn’t been convicted of the crime and therefore cannot technically be removed from the ballot because of the 14th amendment, yet.
House GOP Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik said, “Another day, another illegal and corrupt act by the desperate radical Democrats weaponizing government against President Trump” in response to Maine kicking him off the ballot.
She continued, “This is election interference, voter suppression, and a blatant attack on democracy. The Far Left Democrat Maine Secretary of State just unilaterally removed President Trump from the ballot. The Supreme Court must overturn this unprecedented and unconstitutional action now.”
Biden hasn’t made many comments regarding his opponent being booted off of ballots. He recently said that “certain things are self-evident”, hinting at the fact that we all witnessed what happened. However, he said he’d leave it up to the judges if it violated the 14th Amendment or not.
