Washington Farmer Thwarts Thieves Using Second Amendment Right

A farmer in Washington state stopped a pair of thieves when he held them at gunpoint on his property until police arrived.

According to local news outlet KPQ News, the unidentified property owner was being targeted by burglars but was thwarted after the farmer pulled out a firearm and held the pair at gunpoint.

“We have many responsible gun owners here in Grant County and if they are outside protecting their property they can certainly hold someone at gunpoint and then call 911 to have us come and investigate and find out what those people are doing there,” said Grant County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Kyle Foreman.

Foreman noted that the farmer made the call on Saturday at around 7 p.m. The responding authorities arrested 45-year-old Glenn Richard of Quincy and 28-year-old Jesus Rangel of Mattawa on burglary charges.

“Deputies found two shops on the property had been burglarized and a box of stolen property was staged outside, along with shoe prints matching the suspect’s shoes inside the shops,” the spokesman said.

Legally armed citizens periodically use their Second Amendment rights against criminals, according to Foreman.

He explained to Fox News on Sunday that Washington law states that it is not unlawful to “use, attempt, or offer to use force upon or toward the person” when “reasonably used by a person to detain someone who enters or remains unlawfully in a building or on real property lawfully in the possession of such person, so long as such detention is reasonable in duration and manner to investigate the reason for the detained person’s presence on the premises, and so long as the premises in question did not reasonably appear to be intended to be open to members of the public.”

The news comes as the mainstream media vilifies law-abiding gun owners for stepping up and protecting their families.Discussions on gun control legislation have also been a hot-button issue recently following a series of mass shootings in the U.S. Since then, President Joe Biden has reiterated his rhetoric against the Second Amendment.

“We’re going to ban assault weapons,” Biden said during a speech earlier this year. “We banned it once, we’re going to do it again, and the number of bullets that can be in a clip.”
