The first black and gay White House secretary continues to unravel intense and legitimate questions about the alleged wrongdoing of her boss, President Joe Biden, and the First Family.
Karine Jean-Pierre failed miserably after facing scrutiny in one of her last run-ins with real reporters after one of Fox News’ White House correspondents. Jacqui Heinrich was seeking clarification on the KJP’s various explanations on Twitter before being criticized for “mischaracterizing” the entire speech.
Is Karine very fast? Very quickly, on Twitter, because they said you’re keeping tabs on Elon Musk’s property,” Heinrich opened. “And me, this is the first time we’ve spoken to you since you posted the files a few days ago. Is it the White House’s opinion that decisions on Twitter have been made appropriately in terms of censoring this report before the election?
KJP responded with his typical vague and awkward doubts: “Let me see, you’re wrong, actually, what I have, what I really said,” he snapped. “[E]he took it out of context when asking your question.”
He continued:
“Look, when I answered the question, and I already have; actually, I’ve already addressed it, about how the White House and the administration are looking at what’s happening on Twitter, we’re also following what it’s happening as you guys are reporting .. as you are seeing”.
Failing to meet its quota of word vomiting, KJP didn’t stop there. Still, on the defense, the press secretary came forward with even more hostility.
“And what I was commenting on is like, yeah, we’re seeing what’s happening, just like all of you are seeing what’s happening with Twitter,” he said. “So, I just want to clarify this because you definitely misunderstood what I said or took it out of context.” So she, pretending that she had answered the concern and was genuinely confused, asked the correspondent to repeat her question about her.
It was a horrific display of incompetence and manipulation but nothing unusual from the overwhelmed and underskilled Press. Secretary. Just a few weeks ago, the KJP came under fire from another Royal Reuters reporter, Andrea Shalalsaid, who asked if the administration was monitoring Twitter for so-called “misinformation.” This was before Musk’s explosive release of Twitter files.
“Just a question on Twitter,” Shalalsaid asked. “You know, there’s a researcher at Stanford who says this is a critical time, really, in terms of making sure Twitter doesn’t become a vector for disinformation. I mean, are you concerned about the… you know, Elon Musk says there are more and more subscribers online? It worries you? and what tools do you have? Who is in the White House who is really aware of this?
And once again, KJP was terribly vague.
“So, look, this is something we’re definitely keeping an eye on. And, look, we, you know, have always been very clear, and when it comes to social media platforms, it’s their responsibility to make sure that when it comes to misinformation when it comes to hate that we see, that they take action, that they continue to take action,” the press secretary said.
“Again, we’re all keeping an eye on this. We are all monitoring what is currently happening. And we see, you know, we see for ourselves what all of you are reporting and, just for us, what is happening on Twitter,” she said.
“But again, social media companies have a responsibility to prevent their platforms from being used by any user to incite violence, especially violence directed at individual communities, as we have seen. And the president was very clear in underlining it. It will continue to do so. And we will continue to monitor the situation,” she added.
